Gennaro Gattuso’s Lazio keep rewriting their record books. On Sunday night they left Juventus’ Allianz Stadium with a 3-0 win, the club’s first league victory in Turin since 2017, and after seven rounds of Serie A they have 19 points, the same as table-toppers Inter.
Two Danes did most of the damage. Centre-back Oliver Provstgaard put the visitors ahead in the 37th minute, heading in a Mattia Zaccagni cross that followed a short corner – his first goal for Lazio. Juventus were not without chances. Randal Kolo Muani had the ball in the net after 24 minutes but was ruled offside, and half-time substitute Nick Woltemade dragged a good opening wide soon after the restart.
That wastefulness was punished. Midway through the second half Gustav Isaksen received the ball from Nuno Tavares out wide, shifted it to his left and sent a low, bending shot just inside the post furthest from Guglielmo Vicario. One minute from the end of normal time, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, on as a replacement, sprinted away on a breakaway that started deep in Lazio territory and coolly opened his account for the season.
The figures behind the result are striking. No previous Lazio coach has collected six wins from his first seven league games, the club has never started a league season this well, and the Romans are unbeaten with four away wins in a row. Their goalkeeper Christos Mandas barely had a difficult save to make all evening.
For Juventus the night summed up a troubled autumn. Coach Luciano Spalletti had to follow the game from a seat in the stand, banned from the touchline after being sent off against Cagliari a week earlier, and home fans whistled the team off at half-time and again at the end. With eleven points the Bianconeri sit eighth and have won just one of their last five matches.
